Brooklyn struggles to move.

Brooklyn walks!

Brooklyn

This little 14 week old puppy was found at the county shelter barely able to walk.  We could not turn our backs on this sweet little girl so we took her into the Mayday family and made our way to the vet.  The vet took some xrays which showed lesions on one of the vertebrae in her neck.  Not knowing the cause, we did some blood work to find out more.  In the two days it took to get the results back, Brooklyn got much worse.  She was completely paralyzed from the neck down and couldn't control her own urination or bowel movements.  The results showed one of the most severe cases of valley fever the vets had ever seen in a puppy so young.

We started aggressive treatments with IV antifungal medication and after several weeks she is showing big signs of improvement.  She can now move and hold weight with her back legs and is starting to move one of her front legs.  She can scoot around by pulling herself forward with her chin and pushing with her back legs.  She can wag her tail and can right herself from a laying position.  It doesn't sound like much but it is a true miracle!  She has an amazing spirit and is such a fighter.  She continues to improve with each day and we are doing physical therapy to help her gain strength and mobility.  Brooklyn is an absolute inspiration to all of us.  If you would like to contribute toward her care, please donate today.

Bridget's story

Beautiful little Bridget was found as a stray at 12 weeks old.  Her kind rescuers took her to the vet to get her a general health check and received some sad news.  Bridget was found to have a severe heart murmur.  The cause was unknown but often murmurs this severe will result in the dog dying within the first year of life.  The vet recommended an echocardiogram to diagnose the cause of the murmur.  We had the echocardiogram on October 7th and again got some sad news.  The type of heart defect that Bridget has cannot be repaired.  She will live out a healthy, happy but likely very short life.  The vet gave an average of three years, but it could be much shorter or much longer, we just don't know.  She may experience fainting spells and will be on lifelong medication.

Bridget will spend time with a very special foster mom but is still seeking a forever home.  We know that there is someone out there who is willing to give this amazing little girl a quiet home full of love for however long her little heart lets her stay with us.

8 year old Parker asked attendees at her birthday party to make a donation to Mayday Pit Bull Rescue.

Parker is a remarkable 8 year old girl who has two beautiful pit bulls named Norris and Bailey.  She felt so strongly about the mistreatment of pit bulls that she decided to take action.  Rather than asking for gifts from friends and family for her birthday, she requested that guests at her party bring a donation to help pit bulls.

After raising more than $75, she contacted Mayday Pit Bull Rescue and asked to make a donation and visit the shelter.  We couldn't be more proud to accept such a generous gift from such a wonderful girl.

If Parker can do it, why can't you?  Click the Donate button at the bottom of the page to make your tax-deductible donation today!
